Overview

Australia’s public health landscape is facing growing challenges, including emerging infectious diseases, climate-related health risks, and the need for rapid response systems. As part of its mission to safeguard public health, the newly established Australian Centre for Disease Control (ACDC) is seeking public and stakeholder input on the future design and direction of our national disease surveillance system.

This consultation seeks views from health professionals, researchers, public health organisations, Indigenous communities, and the broader public to inform a modern, resilient, and equitable surveillance infrastructure that can protect all Australians.

We invite you to review the key themes presented and share your views on the priorities, challenges, and innovations that should shape Australia’s disease detection and response capabilities.

Why your views matter

  • Influence National Health Policy: Your input will directly shape the future of Australia’s disease surveillance strategies.

  • Support Community Health: Help ensure the system reflects diverse health needs, including those of vulnerable and remote populations.

  • Promote Transparency and Trust: A participatory approach fosters accountability and strengthens confidence in public health systems.

  • Encourage Innovation: Your feedback can help prioritise emerging technologies and data systems that improve outbreak detection and response times.
